Abstract

This article seeks to help faculty learn ways to incorporate teaching critical thinking based on research by Stephen Brookfield, a well-published expert in the field of critical thinking education. The paper will focus on how Brookfield’s research on teaching critical thinking can change the traditional accounting classroom where students passively cover content to a classroom where students engage within the content so that they develop the critical thinking skills necessary to work effectively in the profession. The value of this piece is in simple changes accounting faculty can make in their classroom to help students shift from sitting passively in class to more significant learning.
